European Political Community Summit in Armenia/ Rama and Kurti among

Prime Minister Edi Rama will travel to Yerevan, Armenia, to participate in the proceedings of the European Political Community Summit. Rama will be present on Sunday, at the welcome dinner hosted by the President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.

In the framework of the Summit, Prime Minister Rama will participate in the second informal meeting of the European Coalition Against Drugs (ECAD), which will be co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The discussions will focus on strengthening the fight against drug trafficking, including maritime and port trafficking, the fight against illicit financial flows, money laundering and corruption, as well as addressing the challenges related to synthetic drugs in Europe.

The head of government will participate in the roundtable co-chaired with the Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo, on the topic “Strengthening connectivity and economic security in the context of the green transition”.

Meanwhile, it is announced that the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, will also be part of the summit. According to the government announcement, Kurti has traveled to Armenia for an official visit to participate in the European Political Community Summit. It is also said that he is expected to have high-level meetings with officials and leaders of participating countries. Kurti will also participate in the international conference Yerevan Dialogue.

This year's summit, to be held on May 4, will bring together 48 heads of state and government from across the continent under the motto “Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe”, while Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will participate as a guest at the summit, marking the first time that a non-European country participates in the meeting. At a time of profound geopolitical transformations, discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation between European countries, coordinating actions to increase democratic sustainability, and advancing economic and energy connectivity and security.

The European Political Community was launched in 2022, as the brainchild of French President Emmanuel Macron, following the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as a kind of intergovernmental forum for political discussions on the future of Europe. /CNA
