"Decision-making in the hands of one person"/ Sejanimi: Political

Analyst Neritan Sejamini spoke in a television appearance about the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party of Albania and the functioning of parties in Albania.

Sejamini said that the entire political organization in Albania is autocratic. Regarding political parties, Sejamini said that parties today function like the Labor Party once did, where the structures within the party are simply a facade and decision-making is in the hands of a single person.

The analyst stated that there has never been genuine democracy in Albanian parties.

 

" The entire social organization in Albania, the political organization in Albania, the governmental organization in Albania, but also the, let's say, institutional non-partisan organization is autocratic. You find the same model everywhere, you find it in civil society, you find the same model in government, you find it in other organizations, you find it in academia, if you want you find it in businesses too. The totally autocratic, personalistic way of leading. And our society has had this type of model as a continuous model. If you look at the whole of Albania, it is a model from which we have not separated. We have gone from one autocratic government to another, to a dictatorial government, then to an autocratic, then to a semi-autocratic one.

The least reformed structure in this entire period is the political parties which today function in the same way as the Party of Labor functioned in the communist regime, they were personalist parties. The structures are formal, they are just for show, they are just for appearance, but in essence all decision-making is by a single person. There may have been moments when it seemed like there was democracy, but there has never been genuine democracy in Albanian political parties. It is a bigger problem that we have as a society , "said Sejamini./CNA
