Heated debate/ Këlliçi confronts Hoxha about AKSHI and offensive

Debates and strong political accusations accompanied today's meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, where the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, was called to provide explanations on several issues related to the progress of negotiations for membership in the European Union, the IBAR report, as well as the controversies created after a joint editorial by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?.

The strongest clash occurred between opposition MP Belind Këlliçi and Minister Hoxha, regarding a possible conflict of interest in the AKSHI issue, which SPAK is investigating.

Këlliçi raised concerns about the involvement of a relative of the minister in the investigations, questioning his impartiality in relation to justice institutions.

"Are you in a conflict of interest regarding a decision made public by the GJKKO a month ago to impose a property insurance measure on a number of persons in the AKSHI scandal, where SPAK prosecutors have registered the names of persons against whom investigations are being conducted within the framework of criminal proceedings no. 20/1 of 2025? Among the names mentioned is Mr. Gëzim Hoxha, who is suspected of committing the criminal offense of "laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity". We are talking about an organization at the highest level of organization. You cannot be impartial in your attitude towards justice institutions and in relation to the first chapter group related to the judiciary, freedom, justice and security", said Këlliçi.

In response, Hoxha denied any connection to the case, stressing that he is not involved and that he fully supports independent justice bodies.

"I have unconditional support for independent justice bodies. SPAK does its job and I do not discuss either SPAK's decisions or those of the court. Justice bodies were established by consensus by Parliament. Regarding a certain investigation that has been made public, we must respect the presumption of innocence for everyone. There is no reason to ask me about a matter in which I am not involved, neither I nor my immediate family. I have no connection to my extended family; my tribe is very large. Even in Malësia e Madhe, if we go, we can find half of my tribe there. Public lynching, collective blaming and smearing through biography are practices that this society left behind 36 years ago. I have nothing to do with that file and no one can smear me. Do not mention my family. If you have something for me, order it. Collective punishment due to biography has been one of the ugliest things of the past. If this continues, this will not "It's not about me, it's about those who have this mentality."

The debate continued on another issue, where Këlliç accused the minister of sending offensive messages to Albanians in North Macedonia.

"Ten days ago I made a message public, which, when it came to me, forced me to verify it. I took full photos of your post, the time when you deleted the message and the moment when you officially left the ambassadors' group on WhatsApp. What is your comment on these published messages? For the first time in 36 years we are dealing with an insult to Albanians in North Macedonia. Do you stand by the Foreign Ministry's statement that the messages are fabricated, or do you accept that they are true and take a corrective stance by publicly apologizing?" Këlliç asked.

Hoxha rejected the accusations, stating that his official positions are not expressed through messages or social networks, but only through institutional channels.

"I met with the Albanians of North Macedonia to clarify that there is nothing to worry about. My positions as a minister and those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not expressed through SMS, Signal or WhatsApp, but only through official channels and authorized statements. Only these constitute official positions," he said./ CNA
