Prime Minister Edi Rama was asked at the end-of-year conference about the investigations against Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
Rama said that trials cannot be conducted based on messages, while adding that the latter could be part of the investigative process.
He also spoke about the sentencing of Fran Tuci, the former mayor of Fushë-Arrëz, where he said he served time in prison for cutting down several trees.
"The mayor of Fushë Arrëz, Fran Tuci, has opened a road for the community where several trees were cut down. And for this he has been imprisoned. Not that cutting down trees is not wrong, but this case is a shame. There are other cases related to inequality in tenders. It is definitely foreseen as a criminal offense.
But since when are trials based on messages? Of course, messages are part of a process, but just imagine how much responsibility the participants in these witch trials have when someone is found innocent. What does one need independence for when their life and family have been completely destroyed? I do not blame the media for this, but those who feed them this poison. So far, we have a very low number of convicted people in relation to the cases. We have very protracted processes and we also have Strasbourg, which has identified very serious things. It is not possible to grab people and throw them from one wall to another and corrupt people," said Rama. /CNA
