Erion Veliaj in arrest/ Ristani: Tirana functions even without the mayor

The acting Mayor of Tirana, Anuela Ristani, commented today on the situation in the Municipality of Tirana, while Mayor Erion Veliaj is arrested and in a cell in Durrës Prison.

In a television studio, Ristani stated that the case against Veliaj has an impact because it concerns an elected mayor.

Ristani added that regardless of the political and legal context, services to citizens cannot stop at any moment.

"The performance of the municipality has been at the standards it has been all these years. I want to be very honest, I think that not only in the Municipality of Tirana, but in the entire city, our calibration by a justice order that we have not seen historically, takes its time. Of course, it affects more when it comes to an elected mayor, whose vision has led the city for years. But the city's services are services that cannot stop at any moment, regardless of the political or legal context for any type of issue. The city must be cleaned, kindergartens and schools will function, they are basic services but numerous in number that do not give the luxury of stopping. That infrastructure of employees of the Municipality of Tirana continues to provide its services because they are necessary and without them we would not be able to go 24 hours", said Ristani. /CNA
