The European Southern Observatory (ESO) has released an extraordinary image of the CMZ, a central region of the Galaxy where cold gas and dust are extremely concentrated and from which stars are forming.
This image appears as "purple and pink clouds" representing cold cosmic gases, invisible to the human eye but captured by special telescopes.
The photo provides unprecedented detail about these gas structures and thanks to it, researchers think they can better understand how stars and planets form, especially in very dense environments.
According to Professor Steve Longmore from Liverpool John Moores University, this picture provides a "window" into the processes that are typical of the formation of most stars in the Universe.
The image focuses on a region more than 650 light-years in diameter, composed of cold cosmic gas under extreme conditions, something that is usually invisible without powerful astronomical equipment./ CNA
