The harsh winter in Cambridge, Massachusetts, didn't stop Mark Zuckerberg. Amid the students wrapped in thick jackets on the Harvard campus, he stood out in shorts and flip-flops, focused on his computer. It was there, in a dorm room, that he laid the foundations of what would become one of the most powerful platforms in modern history.

On February 4, 2004, Zuckerberg launched “The Facebook,” unaware that he was changing the way the world communicates. Just two and a half years later, he turned down a $1 billion offer from Yahoo, convinced of the platform’s potential.

Facebook's co-founders were Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin, the latter playing a key role in the initial funding. A turning point came with Sean Parker, who suggested moving to Palo Alto and dropping the "The" from the name. Investments began to pile up, including $500,000 from Peter Thiel, and within a few months the platform had over a million users.

The success was accompanied by legal conflicts. Saverin left after clashes with Zuckerberg, while Facebook also faced a lawsuit from the Winklevoss brothers, closed with a $ 65 million settlement. In 2012, the company bought Instagram for $ 1 billion and went public, raising $ 16 billion. Two years later, it bought WhatsApp for $ 22 billion.

The social network was rocked by the Cambridge Analytica scandal, which revealed the unauthorized use of data from 87 million users for political purposes. Zuckerberg testified before authorities and Facebook was criticized globally for privacy violations.
