On January 6, 1926, in Berlin, a new airline brand was born, the first "Luft Hansa", created by the merger of the companies Junkers Luftverkehr and Deutsche Aero Lloyd. This moment marks the 100th anniversary of the creation of the "Lufthansa" line.

Just three months after its founding, on April 6, 1926, Lufthansa's first aircraft took off on its maiden flight, opening a new chapter in the history of German aviation.

Over the decades that followed, the company's history was marked by progress, setbacks, and many "new beginnings."

Lufthansa emphasizes that today's company has its legal roots in the so-called "second Lufthansa", reestablished in 1953, while flight operations resumed in 1955.

As part of its 100th anniversary in 2026, the airline announces that the celebrations will be visible on a large scale. They will include a special fleet of six aircraft, led by a Boeing 787-9 equipped with a special design.

Lufthansa is also using this important anniversary to reflect on its centennial journey, under the motto "We are the journey".
