US and Iran consider proposal for 10-day ceasefire

The mediators in the Middle East conflict between the United States and Iran appear to be trying a new ceasefire initiative.

After nine consecutive nights of gunfire and increasing escalation, mediators are considering the possibility of a 10-day ceasefire.

A senior Iranian official told US media that it is an attempt to find ways to revive the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said over the weekend that the United States is open to a "diplomatic solution" and Iran also did not rule out negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei was earlier asked if the door to talks with the United States was closed and replied that Tehran advances both war and diplomacy, in line with its national interests. /CNA
