Hungary considers lowering voting age to 16

Hungary is considering lowering the voting age as part of its upcoming constitutional reform process.

The country's Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, declared that today's generation of Hungarians under the age of 18 is knowledgeable enough to help shape the country's decisions.

He said he would personally support legislation to lower the voting age.

"I am convinced that today, most people under the age of 18 are sufficiently prepared and informed to have a voice in our common decisions. As for me, during the constitutional process, I would support lowering the voting age to 16," said Magyar.

He also expressed hope that the upcoming constitutional amendment would raise standards in parliament./CNA
