US-Serbia Strategic Dialogue/ Two Memorandums Signed

The Strategic Dialogue process between the United States and Serbia officially began in Washington this Friday, with the opening of the meeting by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The dialogue, described as a new era in bilateral relations, aims to strengthen cooperation in the areas of economy, security and foreign policy.

As part of this process, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric announced the signing of two important memorandums.

The first focuses on energy cooperation, with the aim of building new gas interconnectors and increasing energy security, while the second is related to expanding the Fulbright program to advance opportunities in education and science.

For Washington, this dialogue serves as a mechanism to achieve some of its main objectives in the Western Balkans.

These include curbing the influence of China and Russia, reducing regional energy dependence on Russia, and promoting progress in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, with a particular focus on reaching a final agreement based on mutual recognition.

Relations between the two countries remain affected by US sanctions against the Serbian Oil Industry, which have continued to be periodically extended due to Russian ownership of the company./ CNA
