US launches new attacks on Iran/Trump warns Tehran: Behave yourself

The United States has launched a new wave of attacks on Iranian military targets, as President Donald Trump warned Tehran that it must return to negotiations or face further consequences.

According to the US military, the attacks focused on Iranian military capabilities used to threaten shipping moving through the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that command centers, air defense systems, missile and drone capabilities, as well as coastal surveillance facilities, including the Bandar Abbas area, were hit.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that air defense systems were activated in Tehran, while in Ahvaz a hospital was evacuated after reported attacks near the city.

In response, Iran said it had struck US military targets in the region, including Bahrain and Kuwait, and had also targeted US communications systems and military facilities in Jordan with drones. Jordanian authorities said their military shot down eight drones and that there were no casualties or material damage.

President Donald Trump said Iran should return to talks, warning that Tehran "has to behave." He said the US administration would decide whether to continue negotiations or take other measures.

On the other hand, Iranian chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Tehran sees no reason to respect the agreements if it does not benefit from them, emphasizing that negotiations and military resistance remain part of Iran's strategy.

Meanwhile, Trump welcomed the release of American citizen Dena Karari, who he said had been unjustly detained in Iran since December 2024. The US president described her release as a "gesture of goodwill" from Tehran.

The recent escalation of tensions has brought the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, back into the spotlight, fueling concerns about the conflict's impact on global energy markets./ CNA
