Rare 90s Pokémon card expected to sell for £40,000 at auction

An extremely rare Pokémon card, which could once be bought as part of a card pack for just around £1.50-£2 from shops in 1999, is expected to sell for around £30,000-40,000 at an auction in the UK.

The card is considered the most valuable item for collectors because there are limited quantities of production and very few copies in good condition, especially copies in excellent condition.

According to experts, few such cards have been preserved in like-new condition, and this is precisely what gives them exceptional value on the market, driving prices well above their original value of just a few pounds.

This auction is part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the launch of the international Pokémon trading card market, and the card is also attracting international interest from collectors. /CNA
