A few days ago, the Church of "Saint Sophia" in the Kala neighborhood in Berat opened its doors to welcome all Orthodox believers.

The architect Artan Shkreli has shown that this church was opened after the interventions he carried out, restoring it.

Shkreli was surprised by what he discovered during the restoration of the "Saint Sofia" church.

The architect said that an even older church was built under this church, showing the elements they found.

A writing belonging to the year 1946 was also found.

"I have a lot of emotion to speak here, I came without emotion to this Church, but here my emotion grows throughout this extraordinary ceremony that I have seen and I have understood that through these ceremonies and these songs, the strong spirit of religion and of the Church has survived for centuries Orthodox.

We joined the initiative of Olti Muzaka, who is a long-time friend of ours and almost everyone's, to make an intervention in an object that had been left aside for many years. It was opened as a church, but there was no special care.

In a special chest, the elements that we will place somewhere in the church or in the museum are preserved, where some square tiles with arches from the XII-XIII century were found, which show that in 1200 there was a church here that we don't know about. be Paleo-Christian or medieval, which means that this tradition of construction and reconstruction has been longer than we thought.

We discovered an inscription which says that the faithful gathered in 1946 and repaired this church and it is there above the main door.
