The well-known poet from Korça, Skender Rusi, has closed his eyes forever at the age of 72. Rusi is known as the lyricist of Albanian letters, who dedicated the most emotional verses to love.

Since he was a student in Shkodër, Rusi has brought lyrical poetry like no one else, poetry which he cultivated with so much love until his last breath.

He also wrote about his best friends because Russia, he was probably more social than any other poet.

His poetic creativity is the greatest asset that the poet left to Devolli, where he was born and raised, and to his beloved Korca, the heart-shaped city, where he spent most of his life and wove verses as only he knew, as he left a great literary wealth to all of Albania.

For more than five decades he gave his soul to Albanian poetry.

In October of last year, Rusi promoted the last collection of poetry, titled "Slowly I'm Going Away".

Despite his poor health, Rusi took to the stage and performed a few verses, as an ominous warning of his untimely departure.

Skender Rusi was born in 1952 in Korça and has completed his higher studies in language and literature. In 1984 he graduated in dramaturgy and in 1998 he became a library director in Cairo.

He has published 8 books of poetry and two of his plays have been staged by the "AZ Çajupi" theater troupe. His creations have been included in the anthologies of several European countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Macedonia, Kosovo, Greece, etc.

For 12 years, he has been the chairman of the Writers' Club "Bota e Re" in Korça.

For 7 years, he organized and directed the biggest cultural activity in Korça: "Korça Nights of Poetry" with invited poets from Kosovo, Greece, Macedonia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, etc.

In 2021, Russia was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen" of Korça./ CNA
