US Defense Secretary Hegseth orders attack on drug boat in waters near Venezuela

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said today he ordered a fourth attack on a small boat in waters near Venezuela, according to a post on social media.

"Our intelligence, without a doubt, confirmed that this ship was trafficking narcotics, the people on board were narco-terrorists and were operating on a known transit route for narcotics trafficking," Hegseth said in his post.

The attack comes less than a day after it was revealed that President Donald Trump declared drug cartels as unlawful warlords and declared that the United States is now in an armed conflict with them.

According to Hegseth's post, the attack killed four men, but it did not provide further details about who they were or what organization they belonged to.

Video of the attack posted online showed a small boat moving in open water when it suddenly exploded. As the smoke from the explosion clears, the boat is visible, engulfed in flames, floating motionless on the water./CNA
