Israeli Navy blocks Greta Thunberg from entering Gaza/UN calls for lifting blockade

The Israeli navy has intercepted a ship carrying aid to Gaza and detained activists on board, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Israel's Foreign Ministry said that several ships that are part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) had been safely detained and that the crew was being transferred to an Israeli port.

The GSF stated that 30 ships are still sailing towards Gaza. The Israeli government, which has called the GSF's attempt to transport humanitarian aid to Gaza a provocation.

In a statement, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called on Israel to urgently lift the blockade on Gaza and allow the entry of food and other essential supplies by all possible means./ CNA
