Remo Girone, the actor who played Tano Cariddi in 'La Piovra', passes

The Italian cinema world mourns the passing of actor Remo Girone. He has passed away at the age of 76. Girone passed away suddenly at his home in Monaco, where he had lived for years with his wife Vittoria, after a life dedicated to cinema and theatre and the popularity achieved with a character that defined the era: Gaetano "Tano" Cariddi.

Born in Asmara, Eritrea, Girone became one of the most recognizable faces on television thanks to "La Piovra."

Cariddi, a symbol of collaboration between the mafia and finance, made him a television icon. His stern figure and icy gaze remain etched in the collective memory.

But Girone's career was much more than just one role. From collaborations with masters like Ettore Scola, to his work with directors like Peter Greenaway and Andrea Molaioli, to international ones, his versatility has always been his acting strength.

In recent years, he has starred in successful projects such as the comedy "What the Brain Tells Us" and the Hollywood epic "Le Mans '66," where he lent his charismatic face to Enzo Ferrari. He most recently appeared in "The Equalizer 3." /CNA
