Shortages in the European market/ EU will increase fuel imports from the US to

EU Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas said today that the European Union is examining options to import jet fuel from alternative supplies such as the United States, due to potential shortages across the continent.

Tzitzikostas told reporters that ongoing disruptions in the Middle East and production cuts in some oil-rich countries have constrained the market.

The announcement comes as the head of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, warned that jet fuel in Europe is in short supply, a claim backed by several European airlines that have warned that this could lead to flight cancellations.

With the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor that accounts for approximately 20% of all global oil and natural gas transit, due to the United States and Israel's attacks on Iran on February 28, fuel exports to Europe have been disrupted, prompting EU countries to take action to ensure the continuity of this type of transport. /CNA
