Oil prices reach record high since 2022

Global oil prices have risen sharply, reaching their highest level since 2022, following reports that US President Donald Trump is expected to be briefed on new military options against Iran.

According to Axios reports, US Central Command has prepared plans for a wave of "short and powerful" strikes, aimed at breaking the deadlock in negotiations with Tehran.

In response, the price of Brent crude oil rose by nearly 7%, topping $126 per barrel, the highest level since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate rose by about 2.3%, reaching around $109 per barrel.

The price hike is closely linked to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy transport routes, through which about a fifth of global oil supplies pass. Reports suggest that the waterway is virtually blocked, raising concerns about global supply.

Experts warn that even a minor escalation of the conflict in the Persian Gulf could have major consequences for international energy markets and global inflation.

Meanwhile, the US has signaled the possibility of blocking Iranian ports, while Iran has threatened attacks on commercial ships in the region, adding to uncertainty in the markets.

Analysts say concerns about a prolonged power outage are growing as investors and governments try to assess the economic impact of the crisis on developing countries .
