The acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, will hold a meeting today with representatives of political parties to discuss setting the date for early parliamentary elections. According to a statement from the Office of the Presidency, the meeting will take place at 3:00 PM at the Kosovo Assembly building.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, Haxhiu met with the head of the CEC, Kreshnik Radoniqi, on the same issue. The latter stated that the CEC prefers June 7, the furthest possible date for holding the elections due to the necessary preparations.

We recall that the Kosovo Assembly, which had a deadline of April 28 to elect a president, failed to come up with a final name. The session was postponed several times during the day due to the lack of a quorum to begin the voting procedure.

The Vetëvendosje Movement, which had the parliamentary majority after the withdrawal of candidates Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Mulhaxha-Kollçaku, had collected signatures for Feride Rushiti and Hatixhe Hoxha. Meanwhile, these two candidacies were not supported by the opposition parties either.

According to the Constitutional Court, the Assembly was dissolved and Kosovo must now hold elections within 45 days. Haxhiu has ten days to set the date for the elections. The two dates for holding the elections are May 31 and June 7. /CNA
