A young Taiwanese woman has been arrested at Bangkok airport for her attempt to smuggle 30 protected turtles hidden under her clothes.
Authorities became suspicious after noticing unusual movements as she prepared to board a flight to Taipei, foreign news agencies report.
A search of the departures terminal at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport revealed turtles tied to her body. Twenty-nine of the turtles were alive and one was dead.
Authorities estimate the total value of the seized turtles to be around $9,000. The young woman has been charged with illegal animal transportation and customs fraud, while an investigation is underway to determine whether the 19-year-old was part of a larger smuggling ring. /CNA
