Serious incident at Denver airport/ One person dies after being hit by plane

One person has died after being struck by a plane taking off from Denver International Airport. Frontier Flight 4345 reportedly struck a pedestrian during takeoff at around 11:19 p.m. local time.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, crashed while crossing runway 17L just two minutes after jumping over the airport fence, and is suspected of not being an airport employee.

The pilots aborted the plane's takeoff and passengers were evacuated via emergency slides after smoke was reported in the cabin.

The Airbus A321 had 224 passengers and seven crew members on board at the time of the incident, with 12 people reporting minor injuries and five of them being transported to local hospitals.

The runway was closed immediately after the incident while investigations into the event were underway, but is expected to reopen within the next few hours.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the case in cooperation with Denver Police. /CNA
