Six arrested in Indonesia for trafficking Komodo dragons

Six people have been arrested in Indonesia for their involvement in the trafficking of Komodo dragons, an endangered species endemic to the islands of the archipelago in Thailand.

Two suspects were arrested in Surabaya, on the east coast of Java island, as they disembarked from a ship carrying three live Komodo dragons. Four others were arrested after the arrest of the two suspects.

The Komodo dragon is listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). There are only about 3,400 of this species left worldwide. /CNA
