US commander: Blockade has stopped all of Iran's economic trade by sea

The US blockade of Iranian ports has completely stopped economic trade entering and leaving Iran by sea, said Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command, which covers the Middle East.

"A blockade of Iranian ports has been fully implemented, while US forces maintain naval superiority in the Middle East," Cooper said.

He suggested that 90% of Iran's economy is supplied by international trade via sea and that the US achieved its goal in less than 36 hours.

US President Donald Trump vowed to block any ship trying to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz from 3pm on Monday, after talks between the US and Iran broke down over the weekend.  /CNA
