Two months since the start of the war in Iran/ No clear winner, major global

Two months after the United States launched its offensive against Iran, the conflict remains unresolved and with no apparent end in sight. While initially promising a swift and decisive victory, developments on the ground reveal a much more complex reality: almost all major actors have suffered losses, while the strategic gains are unclear.

The fighting has been temporarily suspended, but tensions remain high and the risk of escalation remains present. Analysts point out that, while some countries may be better prepared to deal with the consequences, there are no real winners from this war.

The main losers

The civilian population has been hit hardest. In Iran, thousands have lost their lives as a result of airstrikes and internal political infighting. The economy has weakened significantly, while repression of dissidents has increased.

Lebanon is also facing serious consequences, as clashes between Hezbollah and Israel have resulted in thousands of casualties and massive population displacement.

Gulf countries, while trying to avoid conflict, have been indirectly involved and have suffered economic blows, particularly from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for global energy trade.

The impact has been felt in the US and beyond. Rising fuel prices and inflation have weighed on household finances, while the global economy faces increased uncertainty and slowing growth.

Uncertain situation for leaders

The US president faces domestic pressure as the war has not produced the promised results. Public support is declining and the economic costs are rising.

In Israel, the military intervention has brought some tactical successes but no clear strategic victory. Meanwhile, security remains fragile and tensions in the region persist.

The Iranian regime, although severely hit, continues to remain in power and has even increased its influence through control of strategic energy routes.

Temporary beneficiaries

Some global actors have temporarily benefited from the situation. China has managed to better manage the energy crisis and is positioning itself as a stronger diplomatic actor.

Oil and gas companies are reaping huge profits from rising prices, while Russia is benefiting from additional energy revenues.

At the same time, the crisis is boosting investment in renewable energy and increasing demand for military technology, especially drones and defense systems.

Two months after its launch, the war in Iran has shown that modern conflicts are difficult to control and rarely produce clear winners. As the fallout continues to ripple globally, the prospects for peace remain unclear and the challenges are only increasing./ CNA
