New footage shows gunman bypassing security in 4 seconds during Trump dinner

New security camera footage has revealed the moment a gunman managed to break through a security checkpoint in just four seconds during President Donald Trump's dinner.

The incident took place at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where a White House Correspondents' Association gala was being held. According to prosecutors, the suspect, 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, had planned the attack and checked into the hotel the day before.

The video shows the moment he rushes out of a door, takes off his coat and runs through a metal detector, holding a long-barreled gun in his hands.

A security agent is also seen in the footage opening fire in his direction, while it remains unclear whether the suspect was shot at that moment.

US authorities say the suspect was carrying several weapons, including a semi-automatic pistol, a rifle and knives.

He is accused of attempted murder of Trump and other criminal offenses related to the use of weapons.

After the shooting, Trump, the vice president and other senior officials were immediately evacuated from the scene.

The federal prosecutor for Washington, Jeanine Pirro, published the video on social media, stressing that there is no evidence that the incident was caused by "friendly fire."

Meanwhile, the director of the US Secret Service stated that an agent was hit in the ballistic vest, but without serious consequences, and reacted by shooting at the attacker, which helped neutralize him.

The suspect is in custody and faces several serious charges, while investigations to fully uncover the incident continue./ CNA
