The ship where the hantavirus outbreak occurred is expected to arrive in

The WHO has declared that the hantavirus outbreak poses a minimal risk to the general public. In a statement to the media, WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier said the virus is dangerous but is not easily spread from one person to another.

"This is a dangerous virus, but only for the person who is actually infected, and the risk to the general population remains absolutely low. The virus is not so contagious that it spreads easily from one person to another," WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier told reporters.

The WHO said on Friday there were six confirmed and three suspected cases of the virus. Spanish authorities are preparing to welcome more than 140 passengers and crew aboard a cruise ship with a hantavirus outbreak, which will head to the Canary Islands, where health officials say they will carry out precautionary evacuations.

The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has stressed that the risk to the population of the Canary Islands and globally remains low.

The ship is expected to arrive on Sunday at the Spanish island of Tenerife, off the coast of West Africa. Both the US and the UK have agreed to send planes to evacuate their citizens from the cruise ship. Various health authorities around the world have been making sure people are aware of the processes involved in tracking and tracing people connected to the cruise ship.

Three people have died since the ship set sail from Argentina last month, while others have been evacuated from the ship for medical treatment. But it is important to note that not all of the deaths have been confirmed as hantavirus cases. Four patients remain hospitalized in South Africa, the Netherlands and Switzerland, while a suspected case sent to Germany tested negative. /CNA
