2001 - The US suffers the worst attack since World War II

It was 8:46 a.m. on a clear Tuesday morning when an American Airlines Boeing 767, loaded with 20,000 liters of fuel, crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City.

The crash created a huge hole and flames all around near the 80th floor of the 110-story skyscraper, instantly killing hundreds of people, and trapping hundreds more on the floors above. As the evacuation of the 2 buildings quickly began, television cameras broadcast live images of what initially appeared to be a horrific accident.

Then, 17 minutes after the first plane crashed, another United Airlines Boeing 767 hit the south tower on the 60th floor. The impact caused an even bigger explosion. America was under attack. The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Saudi Arabia and several other Arab countries.

Funded by Saudi Osama Bin Laden's Al Qaeda terrorist organization, the terrorists allegedly acted in revenge for America's support of Israel, its involvement in the Persian Gulf War, and its continued military presence in the Middle East.

Some of the terrorists had even lived in the United States for more than 1 year, and had taken flying lessons. Others had entered the US months before the attack. The 19 terrorists managed to easily bypass several cutting tools at 3 East Coast airports, and boarded 4 planes bound for California.

While millions watched in horror as the events unfolded in New York, another American Airlines plane passed through downtown Washington and crashed into the west side of the Pentagon military headquarters at 9:37 a.m. The jet fuel caused a structural collapse of part of the giant concrete building.

125 military personnel at the Pentagon were killed, along with all 64 people on board the plane. More than 15 minutes after terrorists struck the Pentagon, the south tower of the World Trade Center was exemplified. At 10:28 in the morning, the other tower also collapsed.

About 3,000 people died in and around the World Trade Center, including 343 firefighters, doctors and police officers. Nearly 10,000 other people were treated for very serious injuries. Meanwhile, a fourth plane bound for California — United Flight 93 — was hijacked about 40 minutes after takeoff from Newark International Airport in New Jersey.

But the passengers realized that the crack was happening, and they fought with the 4 hijackers. They allegedly attacked the cabin with fire extinguishers. As a result, the plane quickly crashed into a rural field in Western Pennsylvania. All 45 people on board were killed.
