Clinical death is a complicated subject, a gray area that is usually determined by the attending physician. In some rare cases, when a person's brain has stopped working but not their heart, a person's body can remain functional even after death using a ventilator for artificial respiration.

Heaven or hallucinations?

The experience of brain death is still poorly understood by science, and is currently subject to rigorous scrutiny by experts. Those who have clinically died and revived minutes or hours later report that in the first 5 minutes after death, things are very strange.

About 10-20 percent of people have some kind of near-death experience (NDE), experiencing visions sometimes so strong that they seem to create a major existential crisis. The most common NDEs involve going out of body, seeing powerful lights, and experiencing feelings of peace that the other world offers.

A mixed state of mind
