"Transport, the weakest link in the system"/ Rama presents the plan

Prime Minister Edi Rama has presented a new initiative of large dimensions and scope in several strategic directions for communities, which is expected to be publicly launched at a local government conference in the first 10 days of July.

This is the national program "Urban Renaissance 2.0", which aims to address a series of elements that, according to the government, the time has come to be addressed in a more complete and structured manner.

According to the Prime Minister, the program will focus on comprehensive interventions in various infrastructure sectors, including the water supply and sewage system, aiming to further improve public services throughout the territory.

Rama also emphasized that, although problems are often highlighted in public discourse, most of the water supply and sewage system is invested, while there are still segments that require intervention.

Another focus of the program is urban and interurban transport, considered one of the weakest links in the current system, especially during peak tourist season periods, when movement becomes more difficult for citizens and tourists.

In this context, the government envisages the introduction of zero-pollution electric buses, in line with European trends for more sustainable transport. According to the plan, a new administration system will be created where municipalities will have a key role in managing the funds, while financing will be done in cooperation with the central government.

The "Urban Renaissance 2.0" program is expected to be extended throughout the country and be accompanied by a logistical apparatus that will serve municipalities for maintenance, cleaning, and interventions in drainage canals and local infrastructure.

"Another initiative of a very large scale and spanning a number of directions of a strategic nature for communities, which we will publicly launch at a local government conference in the first 10 days of July.

It is about the national program 'Urban Renaissance 2.0'. It is a program that aims to address several elements that have come to take an exhaustive direction. To address all the remaining uninvested parts; there are some parts that, contrary to what is thrown around and scattered in the daily negative discourse, are less, much less than invested parts of the water supply and sewage system.

The program will address the need to make a comprehensive intervention and to respond to these remaining needs of the water supply and sewage system. We will address to take urban and interurban transportation to the next level. The weakest link in our industrial system which is the peak season transportation that becomes difficult for tourists to move in the public sector.

We are talking about electric buses that have 0 pollution, which is a general trend in Europe. To build a system for the use and administration of these vehicles under the administration of municipalities, it will be the government together with the municipalities that will provide the vehicles and the municipalities will administer them through a system that we have successfully piloted.

"We will extend it to the entire territory, we will have a logistical apparatus that will serve municipalities for the necessary maintenance, cleaning, and drainage canal works," said Rama./ CNA
