Invited to the podcast "Different, but Together" on CNA TV, speech therapist and deputy director of the Institute for Deaf Students, Evis Gazheli, has shown the cases when a hearing aid is placed and the cases where cochlear implantation is resorted to.

Gazheli said that in cases where the hearing measurement results in up to 60 decibels, the child is referred for the placement of a hearing aid.

In cases where the hearing loss is profound, a cochlear implant is placed. During the conversation on "Different, but Together", the speech therapist also explained the steps that are followed with the child after the cochlear implant procedure.

Gazheli said that after the operation, the most important part is the speech therapist, where the assessment and the work plan that will be followed, based on the child's needs, are made. The work, the speech therapist said, starts with breathing exercises and then the phonetic investigation, which mainly consists of placing sounds.

 

" If a child has hearing up to 60 decibels, a hearing aid is recommended. If the loss is profound, a cochlear implant. After surgery, speech therapy is the most important part of this process, the child is assessed and a work plan is created, based on the child's needs. The main support is the family, the main help in the progress of the work. The speech therapist's work starts with breathing exercises, then phonetic investigation, where there are more problems in placing sounds. Placing sounds has a sequence of placement. It is very difficult when the child walks, because the syntax is very damaged. If you don't use games in these exercises with a small child, you can't explain anything to them ," said the speech therapist.
