The students of December '90 and the protesters of June 2026, commonalities and differences
I do not deny that as a participant in the '90 Student Mov...

Let's put it bluntly, because Albanians are tired of the long analyses of paid experts and panelists who speak for four hours without saying anything: the protest did not break out for Zvernec. Zvernec was just the trigger. The gas cylinder had been filled for years by the government, the opposition, the oligarchs, clients, partners, political cousins ??and the entire caste that has taken the country hostage. But as always, the government is trying to sell the event as a local problem. Just as if the Titanic was sinking and the captain went on television to explain that the problem was just a scratch on the starboard side of the ship. Albanians did not protest for a plot of land. They came out because they feel like tenants in their own country. They came out because property is not secure. Because justice is a lottery. Because the state has turned into a mediation counter. Because everything works with a friend, with a phone, with a party, with favor and with "I know someone."
The funniest thing was when Taulant Balla, with the confidence of a pasha who has just dismounted from his horse, told the protester that he would solve his mortgage problem. That's where you have summed up the entire Albanian tragedy in one sentence. The citizen asks for a state. The politician offers him a friend. The citizen asks for a law. The politician offers him a phone call. The citizen asks for an institution. The politician offers Taulant. As if it were the 18th century and the peasant begged the bey for a piece of land. "Bring me the file." But why should we bring you? Who are you? The Mortgage Directorate, the Court? The Prosecutor's Office? Or are you the national application for solving problems? In fact, this is precisely what is being protested against. We don't want Taulant to solve problems. We want institutions that don't need Taulant. Because when a problem is solved by the strong and not by the law, then we don't have a state. We have feudalism with the internet and press conferences. Then comes the funniest part of the show. When you can't explain why people are angry, you start looking for external enemies.
Rama, largohu!
But above all, Rama has become the "General of the Army of Serviles". After so many years in power, there are no people left around him who tell the truth. There are only people left who say what he wants to hear. In the court of power, the word "no" does not exist. There, every idea is genius. Every speech is historic. Every failure is a success. Every scandal is a conspiracy. Every critic is an enemy. And every defeat is a misunderstood victory. It is the perfect laboratory of political self-deception. The problem is that outside the court lives a people. A people who have been hearing the same promises for years. A people who see the same faces. A people who see the same excuses. A people who are losing faith not only in the government, but in the entire political class. Because the bitterest truth is this: many Albanians no longer believe in either Rama or the opposition. One side has consumed power. The other has consumed patience. One promises miracles that do not come. The other promises salvation that does not convince. And the ordinary citizen sits among them as a spectator of a long series that has long since lost its meaning. Therefore, anger is no longer just political. It is moral. It is aesthetic. It is psychological. People are not just dissatisfied. They are tired. Tired of propaganda. Tired of deception. Tired of arrogant people lecturing them. Tired of politicians who get rich while talking about sacrifices. Tired of promises that are recycled like plastic bottles.
And perhaps the sentence most often heard in cafes, buses and family tables is no longer: "Who will you vote for?" But: "Is there anyone left to vote for?" This is the true tragedy of the Albanian transition. Not only have politicians lost the trust of citizens. They have managed to discredit the very idea of ??trust. Therefore, Rama, leave. Not because the opposition demands it. Not because an embassy demands it. Not because political fashion demands it. But because after so many years in power you have reached the point where even those who once trusted you, today view you with indifference, fatigue or disgust. And for a politician there is no worse end than this: not when people hate you, but when they no longer believe a word you say. Because at that moment you are no longer a leader. You are just the general of an army that continues to march across the country, while the people have long since left the parade.
