The average salary in the country in 2025 reached 84 thousand lek. But not everyone is paid the same, even though they have the same profession.
A man was paid an average of 86 thousand lek gross per month in 2025, according to data published by INSTAT. Women continue to be paid less, with an average salary of 82 thousand lek, or 4.5% less than men.
However, the wage gap has reached its lowest level since 2014, when INSTAT reported the data. A year earlier, the difference was 4.9%, while in 2014-2019, men were paid an average of 10-11% more than women.
Out of 36 occupational groups reported by INSTAT, only in three of them are women paid more, in the other 33 men dominate with differences reaching up to 50%.
Women leaders make the difference
“Administrative and commercial managers” had the highest average gross monthly salary in the country, at 223 thousand lekë. Unlike most professions in the country, in management, women are paid better than men. A female manager received an average of 132 thousand lekë per month, compared to her male counterpart of 214 thousand lekë, or 8% more.
Even the state “treats” women better than men. The average salary for women in the group “Legislators, senior state administration officials and executive directors” was 126 thousand lekë, or 9% more than men.
The third profession where women receive the highest salary is "Service and support workers", with a salary of 52 thousand lek, or 3% higher.
The profession with the biggest difference, where men are paid more, is in agriculture. While the salary for men in the group "Producers of agricultural, livestock, and fishing products for family needs" is paid 85 thousand lek, women working in agriculture receive half that, only 42 thousand lek, which is also the lowest salary in the country.
Even in the field of healthcare, men are paid 13% more, at 120 thousand lek, compared to 104 thousand lek for women.
Female teachers are also discriminated against, receiving 12% less than men (110 thousand lek and 107 thousand lek, respectively).
IT specialists now earn more than production managers
For several years, the profession of "Information and Communication Technology Specialists" has been the second highest paid in the country, (after administrative and commercial managers) with 173.5 thousand lek per month (men are paid 175 thousand lek and women 171 thousand lek).
This profession is also being paid more than production managers, who are ranked third, with 172.5 thousand lek (178 thousand men and 168 thousand women).
While the lowest paid profession in the country is that of "Street sales and various services workers", the occupation with an average salary below 50 thousand lek, with men receiving 50.4 thousand lek and women 46 thousand lek. /Monitor
