"The process in The Hague has deviated from the mission"/ Hashim

Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi has spoken from prison in The Hague about the ongoing trial against him. In an interview for the show "Opinion", Thaçi said that the trial, which has been going on for 6 years, has deviated from his mission.

He further stated that this process should be transparent, while adding that it is only an instrument in what he called a "legal experiment".

Among other things, the former president expressed confidence that after hearing the witnesses, a fair decision will be reached for him and other former KLA leaders.

"I am spending my sixth year in solitary confinement, without a court decision. As American political expert Daniel Serwer recently emphasized: this process has deviated from its mission. Justice must be provided, not revenge based on deceit. For my part, I have nothing to add to this statement. It should be transparent, accountable, with a guardianship mechanism, respect for the equality of the parties, human rights, and above all the legislation of Kosovo, on the basis of which this court was established. The criminal prosecution should respect the fundamental principles of the code of ethics, so that the truth is followed wherever it leads, including exculpatory evidence. I am only an instrument in this legal experiment. I am confident that after hearing the witnesses, they will issue a just and meritorious decision", Thaçi said. /CNA
