Former prosecutor: Measures should be tightened for those who violate traffic

Former prosecutor Eugen Beçi said this evening that measures for traffic violators should be tightened.

In a television appearance, Beçi stated that this should be done as long as citizens are not educated about driving. The former prosecutor said that these measures could be taken by increasing the presence of police, traffic lights or reducing the speed limit.

"When we see that we cannot educate citizens to get into a vehicle and drive within the rules of the road, then we must take more repressive measures. You can take repressive measures that involve the presence of police officers, traffic lights, and reducing the speed limit. All over the world, the speed limit in residential areas where there are children is up to 30 km per hour, and if you violate this sign, you are fined and end up in prison. In 2013, the Ministry of Justice toughened the punishment for violating traffic rules and driving while intoxicated. Unfortunately, in 2014, a paragraph was added, stating that anyone who drives while intoxicated can be sentenced to prison, but they can also pay some money to the state and get out of prison," said Beçi. /CNA
