The Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language 2026 was presented at the “Fan Noli” University of Korça, one of the most important works of Albanian lexicography, which according to researchers represents a major achievement for the Albanian language and culture. The activity brought together representatives of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, professors, researchers and students, in an event dedicated to the importance of documenting and enriching the Albanian language.

Opening the event, the moderator of the event, Dr. Olger Brame, described this moment as an event of particular importance for national culture.

"It is a special honor and a privilege that we are gathered today for an event that marks a turning point in the history of our national culture. Today, at the University of Korça, we will present the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language, a major work of Albanian lexicography. The language is our first homeland and this great dictionary ensures that this homeland remains invincible and rich for generations to come ," said Brame.

In his welcoming speech, the rector of “Fan Noli” University, Lorenc Ekonomi, described the dictionary as a testament to the expressive power of the Albanian language and a cultural monument of the Albanian nation. He emphasized the importance of preserving and enriching the language as a permanent national and academic task.

"I have the pleasure and special privilege to address you at this event of outstanding academic and cultural importance. Language is among the most powerful symbols of a nation's identity. Through it, historical memory, spiritual heritage, culture and our national consciousness are preserved. The Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language represents not only an extraordinary scientific achievement, but also a testament to the dedication of Albanian scholars to reflect as fully as possible the lexical wealth of Albanian," said Ekonomi.

On behalf of the Academy of Sciences of Albania, the scientific secretary, Anila Hoda, described this work as a national value that serves Albanians everywhere in the world and scholars of the Albanian language. She praised the many years of work of the group of scholars and emphasized that professional suggestions will help in its further improvement.

"It is a special pleasure for me today, on behalf of the Presidency of the Academy of Sciences, to be part of this activity where one of the greatest works is presented: the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language. I think it is not only a national value, but a value for all Albanians wherever they are in the world today and for all scholars of the Albanian language. It is not only a work of scientific value, but also a cultural monument. We must appreciate the great and dedicated work of the group of scholars who have contributed to its compilation ," said Hoda.

The participants described this project as a common national asset, while emphasizing that its release on a digital platform makes it more accessible to researchers, teachers, students and all users of the Albanian language. The Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language aims to serve as a fundamental instrument for documenting and reflecting the lexical wealth of contemporary Albanian, remaining an important reference for generations to come. /CNA
