OFFICIAL/ Surprised Germany at the World Cup, coach announces departure

Sebastian Beccacece has confirmed his departure from Ecuador's management following their 2-0 World Cup round of 16 elimination by Mexico.

The Argentine coach stated that his contract ended with the conclusion of the World Cup and that he had not achieved the objectives he had set for himself.

Beccacece said he would have liked to continue working with the national team, but considered it right to leave after the elimination. He praised the support of the players and managers during his time in charge of the team.

Ecuador were considered one of the surprise teams of the tournament, especially after their 2-1 victory over Germany in the group stage. The national team had also secured second place in the South American qualifiers before the start of the World Cup.
