Ukraine denies Russian claims of taking Kostyantynivka/ Massive drone attack on

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army has denied Russian claims that its forces have taken control of the town of Kostyantynivka in eastern Ukraine, a fortified Ukrainian army position on the road to the last major cities of Donbass that still remain under Kiev's control.

"These are false claims," ??said an official from the Ukrainian General Staff.

On the other hand, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared on Friday that “Kostyantynivka has been completely taken and the city is now under the full control of our forces.” He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin had held talks with military leaders regarding the situation in the area.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities announced that overnight St. Petersburg, the second largest city in Russia, as well as the Leningrad region, were hit by a major Ukrainian drone attack.

St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said the city of about 6 million people was the target of a large-scale drone attack. He did not give details on the targets hit, while local media outlet Bumaga reported a fire at the city's oil terminal.

The governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, also said that drones hit the port of Vysotsk, about 170 kilometers from St. Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland. The port is used for the export of oil, grain, coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG).

According to Drozdenko, Russian air defenses shot down 72 drones over the Leningrad region. So far, no official data on casualties or the extent of material damage have been reported. /CNA
