"The coming months could be critical"/ Polish Prime Minister's

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has stated that Poland is preparing for "different scenarios", warning that the coming months could be "critical" due to threats coming from Russia.

Tusk was reacting to media reports that Moscow is planning an armed provocation in Poland to test NATO's resolve. According to the reports, which cite US intelligence sources, Russia could launch attacks on Polish infrastructure with missiles or drones, or even send troops into the country's territory.

"I don't want to scare anyone, but the coming months could be really critical, also because of the new nature of the war. These concerns are felt particularly in the Baltic states," Tusk told reporters.

According to Polish media outlet Onet, sources close to President Karol Nawrocki have said that the United States has warned Warsaw several times about a possible attack plan. So far, the White House and the US State Department have not commented on these reports.

According to information also published by the British newspaper The Telegraph, the objective of such a provocation would be to exert pressure on Ukraine's Western allies to suspend military aid to Kiev.

Polish President Nawrocki is expected to attend next week's NATO summit in Turkey, where alliance leaders will discuss increasing defense spending and continuing military support for Ukraine.

Earlier, Tusk had warned that Russia could attack a NATO member state within the coming months. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski has stated that he does not rule out the possibility that Russia could organize a "false flag" operation to justify an attack on an alliance country.

The Baltic states have also expressed similar concerns. Officials from Latvia and Lithuania have warned that Russia could intensify hybrid warfare through provocations with drones, missiles or other incidents along NATO borders.

According to Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, an armed attack against one member state is considered an attack against the entire alliance, obliging member countries to come to each other's aid. /CNA
