OFFICIAL/ Elimination from the World Cup, the famous coach resigns

Ronald Koeman has resigned as coach of the Netherlands after their elimination in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

The decision was made public a day after the penalty shootout defeat to Morocco. The Dutch coach had been criticized for changing the formation from 4-3-3 to 5-2-3 for the qualifier.

The Netherlands had secured two wins and a draw in the group stage but failed to progress further in the tournament. Koeman defended his tactical choices after the match, stating that he would have acted in the same way.

In his farewell message, he took responsibility for the elimination and admitted his disappointment at ending his adventure with the national team in this way.

With Koeman's departure, the Dutch Federation will begin the search for a new coach.
