Meta: If I had needed to be released from prison so much, I would have included

The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has reacted from the cell regarding some discussions as part of Wednesday evening's show on A2 CNN.

Through a lengthy statement, Meta states that he does not want the issue of his release from detention to be raised in a television studio, instead, he shares the request for an interview in the cell with journalists, and even better, as he says, with a panel of analysts.

"Honorable Director of the Center for Public Information Issues (INFOÇIP), Mr. Gerti Shella,

Congratulating you on your principled stances in protecting the rule of law for more than a decade, but also as an impartial monitor of the functioning of justice institutions, and since yesterday you were on the show "Off The Record" on A2 CNN, by journalist, Mr. Andrea Danglli, I have these prayers for you:

1. Do not raise the issue of my release from detention, as this does not apply to the "Plepave 2" Reform, which you know that I have warned about for a long time about the consequences it would bring for Albanians.

Secondly, if I had felt it was so necessary to be released from prison, I would have put my name on the safe lists for deputies.

But you know, I have been against this closed list system since 2008, when the catastrophic constitutional changes were made.

2. I ask you, Mr. Lavdrim Lita, who was with you and others, to publicly request that I be given the official decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the "Jordan Misja" Penitentiary Institution, taken on July 2, 2025, as to what violations I have been convicted of.

Is it normal for a citizen not to be served with a sentence even after 10 months?

Likewise, is it normal for this citizen not to exercise his right to appeal?

But can this constitutional right be exercised if you don't have an official decision in hand?

3. Please, honorable Mr. Shella, Mr. Lita and all others, to publicly request that Mr. Andrea Danglli and other colleagues like him, who have also received permission from SPAK, to interview me here, no longer be arbitrarily and with scandalous excuses, that there are supposedly no conditions here to conduct an interview.

If they don't have those conditions, I assure you that we can do it in my cell because it is very comfortable to host not only a journalist with a cameraman, but also a panel of analysts.

Russia had conditions, allowing international media to interview Putin's opponents in Siberian prisons, and Albania had no conditions, opening all chapters of negotiations with the European Union to conduct an interview in the middle of Tirana!!!

As for the detention standards that you, as a representative of civil society, have taken seriously, if you find the time and get permission, I am waiting for you at any moment to discuss with you.

Of course, not for me, but for hundreds of innocent people who have been forgotten here for years.

Likewise, let's also talk about the conditions of guards and prison employees, which are extremely problematic.

Then, as for justifying failures and anti-European standards, let's not forget that we also did the "Plepat 1" Reform with "allies".

The problem is that due to legal uncertainty, 1 million Albanians have left in these 10 years, not 1 million "allies".

The danger for this country is that it will not remain without Albanians because it has always had "allies".

Therefore, to have a just and functional legal state, we must protect our Constitution as the most precious thing that Kim Filbs and McGonigals have ever existed, honorable Mr. Shella. /CNA
