Yevgeny Prigozhin is buried in a private ceremony in Saint Petersburg

Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin has been buried in a private funeral in St. Petersburg, his press service said, the BBC reports.

He said the ceremony was held in "a closed format" and all those who "want to say goodbye can visit the [city's] Porokhovskoye cemetery."

Prigozhin, 62, was confirmed dead by Russian authorities after genetic analysis of 10 bodies found on the plane that crashed on August 23 near Moscow.

The Kremlin has denied speculation that it was to blame for the downfall.

But a number of Russia watchers - both at home and abroad - have described Prigozhin as a "dead man walking" since an aborted armed rebellion he led in June.

All 10 people - including Prigozhin's right-hand man, Dmitry Utkin - died in the accident in the Tver region, north-west of Moscow./ CNA
