US President Donald Trump has reacted to Iran's response to the US peace proposal. In his post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that their response is "completely unacceptable."
“I just read the response from the so-called ‘Representatives’ of Iran. I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” he said in his post.
Iran sent its latest proposal through Pakistani mediators on Sunday morning, according to Iranian state media.
Meanwhile, a ceasefire aimed at facilitating talks to end the war launched by the US and Israel in February has been respected, despite occasional exchanges of fire.
Earlier this week, Trump said the war in Iran would end quickly, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium must be "eliminated" before the war against Iran can be considered over.
On Sunday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian did not directly refer to the proposal, but said: "We will never bow our heads to the enemy, and if talk of dialogue or negotiations arises, it does not mean surrender or withdrawal."
The US news agency Axios reported that the one-page US memorandum with 14 points includes provisions such as suspending Iranian nuclear enrichment, lifting sanctions and restoring free transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Iran has continued to block the waterway, leading to a surge in global oil prices. The US, for its part, has implemented a blockade of Iranian ports to pressure Tehran to agree to its terms. /CNA
