Closing the Strait of Hormuz/ Macron: US and Iran must calm down

French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Iran and the US to reduce tensions over the Strait of Hormuz and address issues diplomatically.

In a joint press conference with the Polish prime minister, he said that his position on the war remains the same and that all parties "must calm down."

Macron further stated that France was not specifically targeted in the strait after Iran attacked ships there last Saturday.

Recall that the US has maintained a blockade of Iranian ports since last Monday, with Iran lifting and then reinstating its own blockade of the Strait of Hormuz late last week.

Earlier, Pakistan's army chief, Asim Munir, a key mediator in the peace talks, said the US naval blockade was an obstacle to the talks. /CNA
