Middle East Conflict/ Strait of Hormuz Closed Again

The Strait of Hormuz has been closed again by Iran. According to the Iranian navy, the reason for the closure is the ongoing US blockade of Iranian ports, which they say is a "violation of the terms of the ceasefire."

Earlier this month, Iran and the US agreed to a two-week conditional ceasefire, during which they agreed that maritime traffic would be allowed through the Strait of Hormuz.

The vital shipping lane has been closed again, and Iran's navy has said it will remain closed until the US blockade of Iranian ships and ports is lifted.

In its latest statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy says that statements made by President Donald Trump on the Strait of Hormuz "have no validity."

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Saturday that Iran's leaders want to close the Strait, but the US will not allow them to "blackmail us." /CNA
