Italy bids final farewell to Pippo Baudos/ Ceremony in Sicily for television icon

In Sicily, the funeral of Pippo Baudo, an icon of Italian television, who passed away on August 16 at the age of 89, took place.

Yesterday, the coffin left the Teatro delle Vittorie in Rome and arrived in Militello in Val di Catania, the presenter's hometown, around midnight.

At the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Stella, the chapel remained open this morning from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m., attracting thousands of people.

The funeral began at 4:00 p.m. and ended shortly after 5:30 p.m. Only a few hundred people were allowed inside the church, while the mass could be watched on a large screen in the square outside.

Baudo will then be buried in the family tomb in the city cemetery. /CNA
