"Iran is humiliating the US"/ Merz criticizes, deepening rifts with allies

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has sharply criticized the United States' approach to the conflict with Iran, calling the situation a "humiliation" for Washington.

Merz said the Iranian leadership is forcing American officials to undertake diplomatic trips without results, citing visits to Pakistan that, according to him, ended without any concrete progress.

He also raised questions about the US strategy in this conflict, stressing that it is not clear how Washington intends to exit the war with Iran.

The comments come at a time of heightened tensions between the US and its European NATO allies, while disagreements over other issues, including the war in Ukraine, have deepened divisions within the alliance.
