Lamine Yamal and Chris Martin help influencer raise over £50m for cancer

A Polish influencer's nine-day non-stop live stream has raised more than 250 million zlotys (£50 million) for a children's cancer charity.

YouTube star Piotr Hancke, known online to his millions of followers as Latwogang, raised the money by streaming from an apartment in Warsaw.

The live broadcast, which ended on Sunday, was supported by stars including Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin and former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szcz?sny.

Spanish football sensation Lamine Yamal appeared in Szcz?sny's video to support the appeal, which was in aid of the Polish charity Cancer Foundation (CFF).

Latwogang, 23, listened to a charity song recorded by Polish rapper Bedoes 2115 on a continuous loop throughout the broadcast.

Written as a rap-diss song, but aimed at cancer, it features vocals from a young patient living with the disease.

Coldplay's Chris Martin appeared on a video call, performing a short tune on camera before apologizing for his attempt to speak Polish.

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski also joined the effort, sharing a video of himself dancing to the song on TikTok.

After the live broadcast ended, the footballer posted on Instagram that he was "proud to be Polish."

Some of Latwogang's celebrity guests shaved their heads in support of cancer patients, and he shaved his own head.

The broadcast began on April 17 on YouTube and ended on Sunday evening.

At one point, the broadcast was watched by 1.4 million people simultaneously, state news agency PAP reported.

At the time of writing, the official fundraising total shared on the Cancer Fighters website showed that just over £52 million had been raised.

The CFF has since set up a dedicated website, pledging to publicly account for all money raised, so that "everyone who has been part of this campaign [can] see their commitment translate into real help."

The charity's president, Marek Kopysc, said they were "extending efforts to help the stars" "innocent children who fight the hardest battles every day."

The money raised is more than three times higher than the previous record set by a live broadcast.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, a group of French broadcasters raised 16.1 million euros (14 million pounds) for various causes last year./CNA, translated by BBC
