US-Iran tensions/ Trump rejects Iranian proposal, oil prices rise

US President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Iran's latest proposal to resolve the two-month-old conflict, dampening hopes for a quick peace deal.

According to a US official, the Iranian plan envisages postponing discussions on the nuclear program until the end of the war and the resolution of maritime disputes in the Persian Gulf. This approach contradicts the US position, which demands that the nuclear issue be addressed from the beginning of the negotiations.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has held a series of diplomatic meetings in Pakistan, Oman and Russia. In Moscow, he was received by President Vladimir Putin, securing support from a key ally of Tehran.

The situation has directly affected global energy markets. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for oil transportation, is operating at very limited capacity, while several Iranian tankers have been forced to turn back due to the US blockade. As a result, oil prices have recorded new increases in Asian markets.

Iran has condemned the US actions at sea, calling them “piracy,” as tensions continue to escalate. The Iranian proposal involves a phased process: first a cessation of hostilities and lifting of the naval blockade, then discussing nuclear issues, including the right to enrich uranium.

With mounting pressure at home and no visible diplomatic progress, Donald Trump's administration faces major challenges in ending the conflict that has severely affected the global economy and regional stability./ CNA
